Negative taken of Mrs. E.M. Johnston and Professor Lewis Johnston from the book "How I Succeeded In My Business" by Rev. A.H. Miller published in 1911. Professor Lewis Johnston, a distinguished educator who established two seminaries under the auspices of the Presbyterian Church, the last being the Richard Allen Seminary at Pine Bluff, Jefferson County, Arkansas, where he also served as a teacher. In 1894, he was pastor of the Presbyterian Church located at the corner of Yell street and Ninth avenue. Mrs. E. Mercy Johnston was the wife of Professor Lewis Johnston; she worked with him in all of his educational, missionary and temperance careers. Lewis and E. Mercy Johnston's son Dr. David A.E. Johnston (b. 1879) was a dentist in Helena, Phillips County, Arkansas. David Johnston married Maria Estelle Miller Johnston (b. 1888), the daughter of Rev. Abraham H. and Eliza Ann Ross Miller of Helena, Phillips County, Arkansas.
